Howdy, heya, howzit, merhaba, etc. I am an American Marine living in Cambs for the next few years and bought a 90 today. I'm looking forward to refurbishing my Landy and doing a little off-roading with the family. The Landy itself is an 86, with a 2.5 Diesel, chassis seems solid, a little rust on the bulkhead, but otherwise looked pretty good. I'd be interested in hearing any tips on where to start on the refurb, I was thinking starting with the basics, getting the rust stopped before it becomes a problem and installing forward facing rear seats for the kids. Any suggestions?

Alfresco,

Thanks for the welcome, I'll have pictures up soon.

Sean,

It's true, I don't have one myself. The UK grants a special visa for US servicemen to come over here to steal British women. ;)

Now then, welcome to UK bud. Was posted near cambridge for a while mesen, went down the road to a US base once but cant remember name of it. Went bowling and had a few Millers:cool:

Welcome Chap, I am a Scot invading England but my missus keeps getting the better of me!

I had a 2.5 1986 that I sold last year. I loved the car, just lacked a bit poke for longer distances but no prob with local stuff and offroading...or if you like taking it easy. I made the mistake of being lapse with checking oils (transfer box in particular) and came a cropper. So for me, regardless of refurb, get around the box's and check the oils. In terms of refurb, post pics so we can take a view on level of work, cheers

1st Pic, a little rust around the door edges and under the windshield, but no holes and the chassis seems solid. I'm taking it in to my local Land Rover service this weekend. Let's hope I did a fair job of inspecting her and made a good choice.

Looks nice old bus. Be careful going for service in case they take the pee. If they come up with anything major, check back here if your uncertain at all. Good Luck

Maybe Alconbury? That's near hear and it has a bowling alley. They've closed several in this area over the years.

Thanks for the tip. I'm using Rockingham Land Rover near Corby if anyone knows them. They seem like good people. Honest even. However, "trust but verify" as Ronald Reagan used to say.

This is actually part of the agreement we made when we decided to let you try and run your own country for a bit...you are making us laugh so much that we forgot to take control again. You are welcome to as many british women as you can carry back, they nag too much and most of them are dogs.

:D
