HI everyone, new to the site. I bought a 07 landrover in Jan this year and since last week have had an ongoing problem with the door locks. Everytime I open the door, the tailgate lock automatically releases but doesnt open fully (if that makes sense?) i then need to press the tailgate lock on the key fob to open and then close before I can then lock the car again. Been back into the garage that I bought the car from and they dont have a clue, they are now sending to a Land Rover garage but I need to foot the cost of diagnosis before anything is considered under warranty!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Open the tailgate so you are looking directly at the release switch, which is covered in a rubber surround. Get a small flat bladed screwdriver and pry the rubber off around the switch. As you start to do so you will probably see white powdered corrosion on the inside of it. If so this is likely the cause.

The fault sounds like water ingress into the tailgate release microswitch located inside the handle. The handle thinks its being operated due to the continuity given by the corrosion, making the boot 'pop'.

The fix if this is your issue would be to replace the microswitch. They are available seperately to the rest of the trim i think. Cheap repair and totally DIY'able.
