BOOT FLOOR! Do i change the side panels aswell?

Hey guys i have a 94 d1 300 and the boot floor is rotten what a surprise 😳......
Anyway the sides have started to rust no holes but looks a bit thin am i best just ripping these out and replacing for new ones or do i get them patched, i plan on keeping the motor for a long long long time so i want things right so what do i do?

If your planning on keeping it Id rip them out and replace them. If you just patch it up now it'll bite you in the arse in a few years time best to get these things done and done right.

Think i best do garage kept going on about partching but i dont want to have to pay for the job doing twice

It would take longer to plate, mine only had a few small holes but by the time I had done it, I could have replaced the whole lot with new panels twice over. Best to catch it now before it starts going up the wheel arches. I take it you are paying a garage to do it?

Yeah i am not bothered how much it costs i just want this landy right i have already lost two to the rust maggots would help if i could weld

I am not the first person to say, and I wont be the last - buy a welder and do it yourself. It's really easy.

Its getting a decent welder though thats the problem lol

buy a decent welder,look on welding forums etc,practice on bits of old metal until you get a bit of confidence,then just DIY,tis easy once you know how,plus you will have the knowledge for life.

Defiantly change the side panels and probably the support struts if your going to keep it.
I changed all mine, even had to patch a bit on the inner wings, be careful of the fuel tank and filler neck and wire loom.
But once done you wont have to do it again.
replaced the fuel pump and pipes on mine also while I could get to it as connectors corroded.

How long did it take you and have you got any tips? Are the seatbelt mounts ok to undo/put back? I have to do this in feb too! Im looking at the boot floor with supports then the pre cut sides rather than the yrm ones that require cutting?

Very nice bugs clean job, how long has it been since you did that? Has it held well?

Done mine a year ago, took a couple of hours to cut it all out, had to make a few lips were the seats hinge but fortunate enough to have metal folding benches etc at work so only took 20 mins to make a few parts needed.
Spent a few hours welding it in, but did seam seal the whole of the return lips were the floor sits to stop ingress of water getting in as this is we're the problem starts. I finished it of spraying it with stone chip to give it a bit of sound deadening and scratch resistants!
I restore Porsches for a living so flat panel work like this is easy, but if your trying it for the first time just practice on some spare sheet metal to get your welds penetrating properly and a nice welded finish and the give it a go!

There's only one way to learn, and after you have got some hot weld down your arm, in your ear etc you know not to position your self like that again!

Haha i dont have a welder unfortunately so shes booked in at garage im gunna cut the boot out before i take it to the garage lol get the grinda out :-D muhahahaha
