Hi Guys,

Sadly I’m looking to have to sell my 2a.
I had a valuation from a local Land Rover specialist that recently did a full service and safety check for me.
That was however back in July/August. So I’m wondering how much it may have changed over the past half year or so considering how prices have been volatile. It’ll help with a house deposit too, so somewhat bittersweet.


PROs:

- An early example of headlamps in the wings

- Chichester 4x4 Land Rover specialist called it the most reliable starting Series they've ever had in - lol.

- Full service performed by Chichester 4x4 Land Rover specialist - All fluids etc - Summer of 2021 - Been in storage since with weekly running

- Starts and drives beautifully, engine sweet

- Recent master cyclinder refurb/overhaul

- Original Smiths Heater

- Spare parts and Haynes manual included


CONs:


- Bulkhead welding required

- Passenger footwell welding required - Floor pan is fine, what the floor pan attaches to isn't

- Brakes could do with replacing/binding a little

- Chassis and rear crossmember could do with attention

- Slight sag on drivers side

- New tyres required


OTHER:


- Has a wingmirror mount off of a forward control (I have been told by LZ users)

- Has a mismatched wheel set, including one or two from a 1 ton (again, I have been told by LZ users)

- Has original holes for wing mount rubber door bumpers

- Double nudge bar

- A previous owner patched up a significant amount of damage to the bulkhead with wire wool, filler and paint. This went un-noticed by a few mechanics and was only found by Chichester 4x4.

Put it in LRO mag and website for 10k, if you don't get any offers, knock it down a grand after a month or so. See how you get on. The adverts are free, so no harm in pitching high for a bit first.

Is it on agreed value insurance?
I don't swear by it, but I don't think insurers are completely stupid, so if it is, that might be a good starting price.

I think agreed value insurance has changed.
The missus 2a is agreed value for double what she paid for the vehicle, but to get them to agree that value she had to send off detailed pictures of the vehicle, and copies of the invoices for all the bits she has bought for it.
It might be worth doing the same, if someone nicks it before you can sell it, you are going to be out of pocket.
I don't really know what someone would pay for it, but 2a do sell pretty well now.

Thank you. The thought has crossed my mind. It’s currently at my nans farm behind a few locked gates :) I would be lying if I said that thought hadn’t crossed my mind though. I’ll see if I can get some time to do that this weekend.
Though I’m aiming to get it sold pretty quickly from now on.

A decent insurance valuation isn't a bad thing to tell prospective buyers either.
 
It's an ex military Rover 10 I think. Possibly 1967? Hard to say for sure as you've block out the reg number. Wing fronts have been changed for lights in wings look. I bet if you take the plastic series 3 grill off and look hard you'll see where the holes for the original lights in rad panel have been covered over. Does it still have twin under seat fill tanks? Do you know its military number and is the military Id plate still present? Shame it's been messed with so much as period correct Rover 8s or 10s are getting rare. Looking at the pics, that bulkhead is rotton with corrosion. Both footwells, door pillars, upper inner and outer corners need replaced and that's just the bits you can see. There will be more when it's stripped. You say the rear cross member needs replaced and other welding on the chassis required. Brakes and springs need attention. It's almost bordering on a full restoration. Market is falling due to current events and large cost of living increases. I'd say it's likely value is sub £2000.

With respect, I’m aware of all of that but I don’t quite agree on the numbers there mate. Maybe a tad extreme one way there.

The Land Rover specialist that discovered the damage back in august themselves valued it at a fair few thousand more than that in it’s current state. I have also seen a fair few in worse state for sale online for more.

To add to what you edited into your post.

It’s 1968, MOD, the rad panel does not have the holes for lights. So no the holes haven’t been covered over at all. It’s the original rad panel to my knowledge. It has an underseat filled tank yes.
 
What people value something for and what they would pay for it may differ widely. Same with online asking prices - they don't generally sell for that much.
As @nathanglasgow says, new bulkhead, new chassis and a lot of effort...in the current climate....:(
I paid a grand for a 1974 ex-mil lwb last year. If someone offers you £3k then grab it...would be my advice, but I agree..£2k is probably nearer the mark.

I think you are forgetting he is selling it in the South of England, people down here have real money, we don't use the potato as currency any more. :)

It is. But I don't think he was really ripped off. I don't think he paid all that much for it, and with a vehicle over 50 years old, there is always going to be plenty of rust, and probably other stuff that needs doing.

People will pay the money, although I have no idea why, I wouldn't.

I felt that initially when It was found. Then I kind of figured that the guy who had it before me was unlikely to be the one who did it. He didn’t look after it much. When I got it I had to change out the fuel tank, the water pump, seals on vents etc.
I reckon it was whoever sold it to him, he only had it a couple of years and physically couldn’t drive it due to illness, hence why he sold it. I don’t think he knew.

all rather shite IMO dude.

kills me to sell it, though I need a deposit for a house.

If the garage said the value they said, I’ll try aim for that maybe I’ll get lucky, I am in an area with lots of rich types! Never know, might strike gold somewhere. Pays to be near relatively goodwood sometimes.
