1997 300tdi Defender 90. Acceleration down, much black smoke, running pretty poorly then the clutch slave went on me so I started in the workshop today. Slave was relatively quick job then onto the poor running. I opened up the top of the fuel pump to find much water and rust. After extracting the boost pin with mole grips as it had seized in place, I cleaned it all out and made sure the bottom pin was still lubed up and working. Fitted the new boost pin and plenty of grease later took it for a spin. Improved low down power and torque, improved acceleration and a smoother ride. Good result.
