Hi all, just wanted to know if anyone knows if later landrover bonnets were longer than the standard Series 3 on my 88 SWB. My new landy that I bought has a V8 installed and so the front grill has been moved forward to make room for the larger radiator and also electric fan which makes sense, but it leaves a gap. Hoping that perhaps a 109 or 110 might be longer to cover this over? :confused:

if your front grille has been moved out as far as the front wings your gonna need a deffender bonnet to reach that far

if a defender bonnet is too long and a series bonnet too short the only option i can see is to shorten the defender bonnet to suit

Thanks Johnny, the grill is about 2 inches from the front wings, so frustratingly out and didn't want go to a defender front grill, wanted to keep Series III. I measured a chaps defender bonnet the other day and much longer as you say, I think cutting it down to size sounds like the best route though and hadn't thought of that, so thanks.

the stage one V8 series had a longer bonnet , but I would think that was just what became the defender bonnet , as it was flat front . The 88 had a short bonnet , and the only other option was a "deluxe" bonnet that had a rounded nose on front . Or dished deluxe for spare wheel mount . HTSH

As you can see, haven't popped in for a while and still haven't got around to sorting this. Thanks for this info, very useful. I will have a look at a defender bonnet again and keep on the lookout for a V8 bonnet just to triple check the length, but sounds like a deluxe might be rather rare.

absolutely no idea is they still exist, but there used to be a filler panel available that went at the front of a S3, my dad had one on his last one when he bought it, it had had the front end changed to look like a 90/110 and it was an extra panel that sat on the top of the rad, with the original bonnet/slam panel.

I've seen a pic of a Series 3 with the grille moved forward and a Defender Bonnet or adaption thereof. It looked really good, like a Series 3, but tougher and more filled out.

Was it Doc Evil conversion:lol::lol::bolt:

I took the plunge and bought a defender bonnet for £20 on ebay, which came complete with spare wheel mounts. Cleaned it up and painted it in NATO green and now looks fab. However not all plain sailing when fitting the bonnet as it sat too high, so needed to lower the front grill and radiator. Luckily for me my neighbour who is a Landy guru came to the rescue and did his magic with his welder, sits perfectly now and I am pleased with the look and now can easily get to my rad to top up when the need arises, horrah! Will post pics when I can.
