bonnet mounted spare wheels

I know land rover found that a 110 with a spare wheel mounted on the bonnet had a higher top speed than without.

i run with one on the bonnet and one on the back door on my 110 , those are 265/75 r 16 dont notice it there , In fact it feels like your driving a forward control if it isnt there:D
 
i recon a bonet tyre looks cool . and two side ones and a roof rack one and a rear tail gate one . then you have a spare set with a spare.

i guess you cant have them on the new uns cos of the "power bulge" anyway.
 
yes it's legal for old landies and certainly for those up to at least 1999. As that is the last date LR made the wheel carrier for. and they only stopped because the TD5 engine change meant the bonnet hit the engine if you had the weight of a spare wheel on it.
 
aye davie - the wolf ones are mounted to the rollcage which transfers all the loads to the chassis.

Mine uses the wolf mounts and my invenshun mount backing. My cameras just knackered again but if you're out this way at some point drop us a line and you can pop by and see it. twas £40 to fabricate from 3mm steel bunch of folds and welds - should survive a major expedition.

I found the dear bit buyin the longer mirror arms - The full design, purchaceof all the bits and fabrication jobs cost me £120. which is pretty frukin crazy!

gives a shout next time your needing an extra pair o hands wi yer rebuild on edith an all pop down an give you a hand an get a look at yer wheel mount
