Hi folks,

looking for help with two bolt sizes.

1) MXC2932 for the top to side wing. Its an AMCE bolt. I decided to put the inner and outer wing on separate, but now I cannot get a couple of the bolts to take a bite onto the 'j-clip'. I went to my local fasteners specialist to get longer versions to aid install, but even they didn't supply them! So does anybody know what these are called so I can look for them online? Or perhaps I sack the AMCE bolts for these bits and just put in nuts and bolts?

2) one bolt on my door hinge isn't catching the j-nut (galv bulkhead so the j-nut isn't sitting flush). 5mm longer on the bolt and i'd catch it and all would be well. I have a 'door hinge set' of bolts, so ordered up a couple longer ones, but the bolt head is much larger. After speaking to several suppliers it seems this winder head is standard. So are people machining these down to make them fit? Or where can I get this smaller bolt head?

The top bolts, number 1, are available in stainless steel from YRM. As for the thread type and what they are called, I don’t know. I am replacing mine with M8 spire nuts and stainless M8 bolts.

The bottom bolts, number 2, you can “machine” the head yourself, if you have a grinder and drill. If you do, tape the bolt threads up with insulating tape. Nip it in the drill chuck, and set to one side. Take your grinder, with a flap disc, and place somewhere secure (I use a vise). Turn the grinder on, and then use the drill to spin the bolt head on the flap disc. Go steady as it can remove a lot of material very quickly!

Good idea for machining. I think that will be best bet. I'll also go look at YRM....

No problem. Go steady with the grinder. If you use a vice, try and line the jaws with some rubber or a rag (you shouldn’t create sparks so don’t worry about setting anything on fire). Just don’t nip the vice right up, the grinder won’t like that.

Can’t comment on the door hinge bolts as mine fitted fine but the wing out to inners I binned and used nuts and bolts. With the headlight out I could just get my hand in with a pair of spanner’s to do the front ones and the ones further back I had to take the plastic wheel arch off and then I could reach up the gap with a spanner and get the head of the bolt with a socket from the engine bay side.

Make sure you practise bending your fingers backwards etc beforehand and it is hugely awkward. I was repairing off road damage so the panels didn’t quite line up right hence the nuts and bolts. The other wing I stuck with the normal fixings as everything lined up properly.

Have a look at my ‘build thread’ to see what damage I repaired - search 00KK53 to find it

i'm in the process of rebuilding, so I don't have wheel arches, wheels or anything else on yet! So I can reach up to the location of the 4(?) bolts that attach the inner to outer wing. I don't know why these AMCE bolts are not working, they just don't seem to pull through for these ones and strip the thread.

Hopefully I can bypass the j-nut with it still in place as the top wing plate has an angle that stops me from taking it out!

I doubt you will to be honest, have you used a joggle bar to get them in the right location? I bet your only a couple mm off.

Other option is to assemble the outer, top and inner wing etc off the vehicle and then fit in one go

Not keen on replacing the existing j nuts as it means taking the wing off again.... too much hassle haha.

Looking at YRM, they are using No14 screws and they said that thread will fit the existing j clips. So I am going to try the screws. The self tapping point will hopefully help location and pull through and straighten up.

If that doesn't work, the wing will be co,in back off! Haha
