Went through some very tight lanes yesterday and managed to not only loose my right side alpine window but also put a pretty bad dent in my roof!

Need it fixed soon as really, anyone know anybody who is good with bodywork around Kent? Doesn't need to be sprayed as the whole thing is being sprayed later in the year. A ball park figure of how much it should cost would be nice as well! :)



Or if I could possibly do this myself? Any tips?

if you are changing the roof, knock out what you can then rivet a panel over the hole,even better if you can rivet inside the recess where the rubber goes

Just a thought
 
You could try making some cardboard templates (using the other side) to get the correct roof profile and try knocking it out with a panel beater kit. Fitting the actual window isn't too hard if you have a seal filler fitting tool, but that does assume you can beat it to the correct profile to start with.
 
hmmm this is turning into a bloody pain in the ass!

Contacted a few body shops I found on google, shall see what they come up with.

Did have another think on swapping the roof, too much of a pain with the roll cage an everything else.
 
So Gigglepin can't do it, 2 of the body shops can't, 1 mobile service is too far away. Looking like this might be expensive and could be cheaper to change the damn roof!
 
Have you tried working it with a rubber mallet, or similar, yet? I think it might me more work-able than you first think. Worth a go anyway, having explored body shop options. Kwakerman's profiles are a top tip and the alpine window will also help gauge the aperture is correct. When you say you lost it I'm presuming that you knocked it out, but still have it. :eek: :)
 
Plan is get estimates, if they are reasonable ill have them do it, if not ill have a go myself to get the window back in and sealed. Then either fit a new roof or have someone fix it when I have more cash.

Nope windows gone, popped out into the woods somewhere! Though did get another one for £30 shipped so not too bad.
 
:eek: did you not notice the bang on the roof, get out and assess the damage and pick the window up:) or were you giving it some and there was too much noise?
I had a small, but nasty dent in one of my rear side panels above the wheel. I tapped it out, up against a solid flat bit of wood. It was surprisingly easy. You could use a bag of sand, to aid the curve. Round the end of a bit of 2x1 to hit as a former against the sand bag. To reinstate the curve of the roof. You'll need a helper. You can't make it worse:rolleyes:
 
Sandbag is standard sheet metalworking technique :)
Looks like a tighter crease towards the back. Reckon it'll still knock out though. I know it's hard to tell from a picture, but some around the window looks like it will bend by hand.
