what are the practicalities of removing the body shell on a disco, want to de-rust and paint it properly which is a bit of a compromise with it all together, how heavy is it stripped.

It takes about 3-4 hours to remove the shell. Quite an easy job (not long done it) if you have access to lifting gear.
It can be done with winch blocks and a scaffold frame, I cheated and used my brother's telehandler. We used a piece of 6x4 timber through the front doors, with cut outs about 20mm wide and 15mm deep to slot over the door seal lip. With all front end bits removed ie headlights etc it only needed a rope from the front panel and the spare wheel carrier to steady it from tipping.
