Body protection query

Hello all, I'm new to the Defender scene, I've got a 110 SE SW on order with a build date of 15 Feb to replace my Jeep. I was wondering about the body protection kit (looks like diamond plate for the rockers, corners and fender tops). Apparently it is an accessary that is installed by the dealer. A few questions for anyone who may know; what is the price of the kit in the UK? Is it functional or is it just for looks (ie. can you stand on top the fenders)? Is it aluminum and how is it fastened? Any pluses or negatives to getting it done appreciated. I'm in Italy and expect to get delivery mid march.

just aluminium checker plate yes you can stand on the wings, tis very useful for this apart from that not that useful apart from looks, can be bought from almost all landrover accesory shops paddocks craddocks ect for alot cheaper than the dealer no doubt
