Having searched the forums can anyone inform me of what would be required and how easy is it to carry out a Body Lift on a 1986 RRC? I am wishing to fit bigger profile tyres to get more clearance under the diffs.

Many thanks

The body is raised 2" off the chassis on my early metal bumper classic. You could do it with a body lift blocks. You might need longer brake hoses and youll have to lift the bumpers as it'll look stupid.

EeEk many thanks for your reply. Is it a straightforward job apart from the items mentioned? Is it just a case of fitting blocks on the existing body mounting points and moving the bumpers, some one posted about the radiator needed lifting.

Really appreciate your reply.

Thanks

I believe that you can raise things 2 inches without the need to modify other components.
Keep in mind that once you go to the big rubber, the forces on your vehicle start to change, affecting bits adversely.

Easy enough if you can get the bolts out :)

Brake hoses might be long enough? I dont know I didnt try them. I was doing brake pipes at the same time so shifted the brackets down and used the standard hoses.

Mine is auto so gear change lever is attached to the floor so moved up with it. The H/L lever is a bit short now but still works.

I didnt touch the steering column and it works fine. You could slacken off the bolts to see if it moves but i doubt it.

The radiator still sits on the chassis as the engine is still at the same height relitive to the chassis. the top brackets needed shifting down to catch hold of the radiator. My PAS fluid reservoir is bolted to a rad bracket so it moved down at the same time...so watch the pas hose.

I had to cut a bit off the front panel and lower the gearbox cooler as it was easier to leave it at the same height from chassis...if its manual then that wont matter

Fuel filler pipe might need an extension...I have a different tank so dont know how it would work out.

all in all nothing too complicated or expensive to overcome.
