Freelander 2 (LR2) Body Control Unit

My daughter-in-law has a Freelander 2 and the wipers have stopped. The local garage in Devon have suggested that the Body Control Unit is at fault and that the replacement will cost more than £1,000. The local LR agent has quoted £200 for a plug in diagnosis.
It is an old car and we are looking for a specialist company who could supply a recon unit for a much lower price.
Please can anyone help ??

Likely not the BCM anyway. These BCM faults are just as likely a faulty brake bulb or summat. There are some real horror stories that start with LR saying "Its the BCM at fault".

First off, a Freelander 2 isn't old, at least on here.

Second, it's very unlikely to be the CJB (what LR call the BCM).
It's very possible that the wiper motor has failed (presumably you've checked the fuses?), the wiper motor harness has been known to suffer broken wires.
That's the place to start, as there are far more likely culprits than the CJB.
If it is is the CJB (unlikely), unfortunately you can't usesecond hand unless you change many other modules, as they are all VIN locked to the vehicle.

Oh and a diagnostic should be half what you've been quoted.
You can buy your own multi-system code reader for well under £200.

I find my local LR garage expensive. But 200 £ I never see that amount for fault reading …

I think they find the wipper motor is still working, so for them is only related to the CCU.

Try to find another garage, but don’t expect to have a far better price. Most garage only replace parts …

Repairing a CCU, most of the time, they put an used one …

Or if you know, try to fix it yourself …

I've just checked.
The wipers are powered by a couple of relays in the BJB (engine bay fuse box), the relays being activated by the CJB.
This being the case, the CJB is the last thing to blame, with many other checks being needed before going down the new CJB route.

A small 9V battery can do the job to test the relay. Checking the resistance of the relay, there is videos on YouTube on how to check them …

We do see it a lot where new members ask a question, get plenty of answers (which is free advice) and are never seen again.

That's good, as long as they know what they're doing.
Like I said, the chances of this issue being the CJB are very small, it's much more likely to be the relays (relay 11 or 9) or a broken wire, or the motor itself.
