My 300tdi has just started giving blue smoke when the engine revs are increased, The performance is still OK and it sounds alright but the smoke is alarming,
Any thoughts anyone.
I have undone the oil filler cap and this is not pressurised and makes no difference to the smoke,

What mileage is it on?
Check intercooler and pipes for oil, cyclone breather and pipes. Could be valve stem seals too

The engine has never used oil between changes but the level on the dipstick is now halfway between low and full .
So it has suddenly started to consume oil.
I have felt the turbo rotor and there is some play side to side.

I'd be inclined to clean out pipes, intercooler & breather then see what its like. Turbo will have a little play as the bearing runs on a film of oil. 80k is low to have trouble with turbo or valve seals but depends on how it was serviced before you got it

Pipes clean, Intercooler very clean, I think it was serviced correctly before I bought it and I am using Motoquip 10w / 40
I am now getting the injectors tested.
Will report back later.

Blue smoke is oil, diesel smoke is more grey and lingers about. Should be 15/40 mineral but i doubt what you're using would make much difference

Update.
Well I changed the injectors, No difference, So I checked the pump timing and it was out and so I adjusted the timing and lo and behold no smoke. Would you believe it.
Thank you everyone for the advice.
Why did I not check the pump timing to start with?

Steve.
