W299 HRM has been in the family for over 7 years. Over that time it was slowly modified, and was used by myself as a young teenager for driving across the countryside with my dog, as well as being an object of my affection during a difficult period of my life. It was incredibly well looked after, and only had about 67k mileage... constantly serviced, well maintained and cleaned (i bought a powerful and expensive steam cleaner to keep it clean!)
I passed my driving test in june, and has the time of my life driving it around- I had been waiting for the moment for 7 years! I used it for driving down to see friends in oxford. Tragically, on the 17th July, it was taken from a friends driveway in Park Town, one of Oxford's best quietest and most desirable areas, some time between midnight and 7am. Door to door questions were no use, and people were shocked, there are basically no thefts in the area usually.
I could not believe it, I had only 'owned' it for under three weeks, and it had been taken from me.
They had taken out one of the small rear windows, leaving only the seals, and apparently unlocked the rear door that way. I was heartbroken, and in shock- I could barely speak for most of the day. Hours and days on ebay and classified sites turned up nothing. The police were polite, but $%&*ing useless. They didn't even search ANPR records from the time it was taken until two months later! All I have left of it are the seals to the rear left quarter window, and the keys!
I know by now, the chances are absolutely zero of finding it, and I have had to buy a new one with the money the insurers gave me (only a fraction of what was spent on it and its value) and have spent thousands on making sure it is a fortress- it would be pretty difficult to take, the new one has every security feature I could afford, and the best alarm system too.
PLEASE if ANYONE knows about a blue td5 defender W299 HRM with one of those boxy galvinised roofracks (it had a custom fabricated light mount with four rectangular lights and an awning rolled up on one side), checker plating, BFG all terrains on boost alloys, an electric overdrive unit, some small square front spots, an aftermarket console with alpine headunit and four speakers, and importantly it was a converted van with four seats and windows, so still had the mid-bulkhead attached, though with two alpine oval speakers fitted.
It carries MASSIVE sentimental value, and I would be prepared to do almost anything to have it returned! If anyone saw it, then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know!
Many thanks, and look out for your land rovers- thefts are increasing exponentially!

I am not sure why I have so few pics of it recently..!?! but these are the only good ones, even though they are terrible. The third pic i think shows just about all of the accessories. The blue was non-metallic, mid-tone blue. W-reg (2000).
Also, had a steering guard, with holes in it. ALSO- had some (actually fairly crappy and useless) brown plastic mud ladders tied onto the roof rack at the time it was stolen.

Also... There is a reward for its return, or for the prosecution of whoever took it!

I shall look into it...
out of interest anyone? -
I looked on the DVLA site at the plate on this car - XSK 996 - says it is for a 1952 land rover. does the free DVLA check take into account plate swaps etc?
Also, I noticed the dash is 2003-spec, and the car is 2002 apparently.
The seller seems to have bought all of the accessories on the car in the past few months, (on his buyers feedback- most, such as the paint and (expensive) hannibal roofrack, led lights etc.) but seems to be selling the car with all of them... a little odd seeing as if it were a nice project, surely he would keep them and explicitly state on his ad that they were not included in a car for breaking..?
Also, can't find any business record of the joiners that are advertised on the window, and the window in itself looks like it wasn't the factory '02 standard fit one.. just like mine...!
Things would sort of add up, such as the probably identical colour underneath, and the fact he bought a new engine cover (mine was f***ed when it went missing, but he got that in january... damn!), but its probably not my car. :( I HOPE no one would ever do that to my car anyway- its pretty horrendous!
Thanks though, and i'll keep an eye on him! Fingers crossed W299 turns up

those dashes came into affect in 2002 only reason i know is because mine has one, and if i was you id keep an eye on him to
