Hi

I have recently noticed when driving on motorways that my Discovery 2 Td5 that there is a blowing sound that comes out if the air vents inside the car by the windscreen. This gets louder when accelerating. I have also noticed that its lost a bit of power and also fuel consumption has increased.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Split turbo intercooler hose, probably only visible when under pressure from the turbo, also only visible when the engine is under load so don't try revving the arse off it when sat still to find it. Take the hose off and examine it. Ready enough to find replacements on the net.

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to the engine bay, is this quite a simple procedure, would you recommend a novice attempting?

Is it a whirring blowing noise like fan or a hissing noise?

It'll be the viscous fan as Ratty says if it's more so a whirring noise but if it's a hiss especially under load, it'll be the intercooler piping hose.

Very easy to inspect and change them even if abit fiddly sometimes to get them in beside the rad and onto the intercooler.

Flat screw-driver is all you need for the hoses:)

Get rid of the EGR valve if it's not removed yet while your fitting new pipes too ;)

Thanks for the info. Its more like a whirring noise, just sounds like the dashboard heaters have been turned up, but drops when i take foot off the accelerator.
I have been researching the EGR valve/intercooler hose replacement and looks good.
Thanks.

Hi, just an update, I found out that the intercooler hose had a massive crack in it.
I am now going to replace it, please could you let me know if I need a sealant when putting the new pipe on, or does it go straight on?

Thanks.
