Blower motor

I have a 1996 defender 90 300tdi and the heater blower motor is stuck,i am buying a new one,will the early one fit (rtc 4200) or should I get the later one(Utp 1911).The early one is a lot cheaper and looks like it would fit.

Take it out and get some machine oil into it, Its probably full of crud, sounds like a heater box strip and clean is needed.

Will do that ,hopefully that will cure it.

It that doesn't work, a 3" bilge blower is cheap and effective.

Put part numbers in a paddocks search and it will show you what vin number they match. You need your vin for this.

I tried the bilge blower wasnt much cop at all.
New fan assy and its the best its been in 7 years!
The motor shaft runs in a little bonze/oiltite style bush which is nipped in between the motors tinware, the lube drys out and the bush seizes to the shaft then the bush has to rotate in the tinware housing and thats why its as slow as can be.
I looked at other motors incl freelander etc and Im sure if you have the inclination you could make it work, but I just could not be arsed.

always wondered why they use that type of bearing, because the environment will dry the oil out very quickly.

My 2005 Defender has done 100,000 miles. I bought it at 56,000 and generally have the blower on the low speed all the time.
The bearings are still fine. The only issue l had was a blocked heater intake drain which caused water to get into the heater and nearly burnt out the motor (smell of burning)
I took out the rubber valve after l cleared it out a couple more times and it soon blocked again.
It’s been fine for 40,000 miles since

I reckon its age rather than miles covered and of course many of the older defenders are second/fun cars so can stand for ages, nowadays mine does maybe 200 miles per year.

I never thought of that, you could be right there.
Mine does 2-300 miles per week.

I had to change rear brake callipers for last mot as they had seized, they were only 4/5 years old, standing kills brakes pdq.
Still at 22 quid each I wasnt to fussed!
