Can someone pleeeease help. The RH stop lamp on my '89 Classic keeps randomly failing. At first I thought the bulb had gone but i've since realised if I remove the bulb and put it back in again it works fine, for a bit. It's almost like taking it out and putting it back is resetting it    It's just the stop light part of the bulb that goes, the rear light keeps working just fine.

If it was shorting out would a fuse have blown? Or the bulb? Also if it was the stop light switch surely both would stop working? Had the whole cluster out, given it all a good clean + WD40 and can't see a problem witht the wiring.

Please help cos if I have to take the BLOODY lense off one more time I'm going to take a large hammer to the back end of the old girl and I don't want to do that cos I quite like her really!

I will give you a sensible reply.

The contacts in the lights are prone to corrosion build up and the spring contacts tend to relax after a while.

Check the contacts and bend the contact points back.

Just a thought, you have got the correct bulbs with correct offset pins?

Thanks locket. Turned out it was the bulb in the end, changed it over yesterday and haven't had a problem since. Will bear your advice in mind for future problems! Cheers.
