I have now been a member of the greasy hands, no fingernail brigade now for about 6 months. I have enjoyed the pleasure, and seen the dark underbelly of RR ownership. All in all the general consensus of opinion is that I bloody love my V8 gas guzzler.
This is not always the case, such as the occasions, usually after a long days work, when the damn bitch just will not turn over to start, or when an amber engine warning light comes on and more recently when the rear wash wipe just stopped.
I have, in my chequered motoring career owned some right dross. One of the worst being an old Cavalier where the whole crate looked like it was put together with pop rivets and self tapping screws. My Rangie then is a veritable armour plated tank compared to many of the others, including my XF.
So I was a little surprised on removing the rear wiper motor and stripping it down to find a ****e plastic gear component in the motor assembly running against steel worm gear. No wonder the bloody thing has worn to buggery, made as it is of cheap plastic ex-yoghurt cartons.
I dont expect everything in a Range to be diamond tipped and tungsten coated, but I do expect a RANGE ROVER to be a little bit stronger and not made with bits of recycled bog paper.
Saying that though, the price we pay for spares, they might as well be made of tungsten and diamonds plated with gold.
While I am in whinge mode. Who in the name of Satan's hairy bum crack decided that a good idea would be to run the washer jet through the wiper motor gearbox. Are we not the country that invented practically everything, are we not ingenious. Who invented the jet engine, steam locomotives, the internet, the bouncing bloody bomb. So which divot decided to run a pressurised jet of water through a electromechanical component.
Now I think about it, it is probably the same component from the BMW E83 ( I think). I thought the bloody Germans were suppose to be good engineers. Didn't they invent practically everything that we didn't get around to inventing, like the V1 and V2 rocket, leather shorts, and Strudel. ( Oh, and the motorcar. I bet old Herr Benz didn't use old bits of old Lego when he first produced the Benz Velo in 1894 )
Bloody cheap plastic and maniac designs.
Other than that it's been a good day.
Toodles!
