I insured my 93 200tdi in January, with FireBond. They weren't the cheapest but I figured they'd know what they were doing as they specialise in Landy insurance.

When I insured it was asked all the usual questions, inc what alarm/immobiliser has it got. Told em it had the factory fitted one and they took my money and sent out policy. Have now had a letter of them asking for proof of the Thatcham approved immobiliser that's fitted to the vehicle. Phoned em up to find out whats going on and apparently the factory fitted system isn't thatcham approved. I've got to get an approved one and get a certificate from the installer confirming that it's thatcham approved. Or they're gonna cancel the insurance.

That'll cost more than the bloody things worth. has anyone else had this problem. I wouldn't mind if it was valuable but it's only insured for £800.

Never had that problem mate,
Can't you just cancel your policy and go with someone else, cause like you say it'll cost you quite abit to do what they bloody want.

Yea but i could do without the hassle at the mo. Plus you just know that if they cancel they'll try to make out it's my fault and sting me big style on the refund. Also the insurance is actually in a mates name. with me as a named driver and I'll have to get him to do the same again could do with out it at the mo..

I've only ever known insurers insist on Thatcham approved on expensive sports cars etc. But on an old Disco, after they have already agreed cover??! weird!!

I'd phone them up and ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain that at the time of taking out the insurance that they agreed to cover the vehicle understanding that it had a standard factory alarm/immo and it was not mentioned at the time of taking cover that a Thatcham system was a requirement. See how far you get. If you phoned them up for the initial cover, almost all insurers record all calls now to confirm what was discussed when taking out the policy. I'll ask my father (an insurance broker) later on and see what he says.

We got our Disco insured with ROADSURE. very cheap £198 fully comp
but they asked for proof too.
When i queried how i was to get them proof of a factory fitted alarm on a 2nd hand car they just said fax or email the page out of handbook that describes alarm.
all sorted and they excepted that.

if they excepted it, why did they bother asking in the first place?

well tis why i called em fer a moan, the bloke directed me to rhe green oval website to download said page?. missus had to -print it then sign it an email a scan.
still best quote by £100 quid so didnt make too much fuss. bizarre really

so why did they get you to send an e-mail of a webpage, if they then didn't want it..seems mighty weird.. are you sure they excepted it.

maybe you misheard them and they said accepted.

you downloaded a page from a website but it wasn't a web page..

thats clevva
..
look if yer gonna call someone dopey try and make sure you're a bit brighter than them, otherwise you just appear to be an arse.
you really do need serious help with wurds and stuff and its not just spelling. its helps if you know what the wurds mean and in what context to use them, something you seem to have great difficulty with.
now instead of sitting on yer arse trying to look smart why don't you rush out and buy a dictionary. then once you become literate, got a proper job and made enough money to retire on. come back and have another try at being smart
who nose maybe wheresdildo will make a comeback then you'll have someone to call dopey
