- Up **** creek.
Yesterday having finished the welding on my rear arches, sills and inner wings I started her up and drove 3 miles home on very little fuel, I had no problems. Today I started her up and she sat idling fine, I suddenly thought "oh i better put some more fuel in in case it sucks all the **** up from the tank and blocks the fuel filter".
I put in 3 liters of the exact same fuel that I used to get the truck to and from the barn where we carried out the welding and started her back up. She started up great but then within a couple of minutes (by the time i got down our 150M drive when I went to accelerate I lost all power, I sat there in neutral trying to feather the pedal and try to get the revs up, the engine was very weak and the revs started getting lower and lower until they were below the usual idling speed and barely ticking over, and eventually the truck just died.
I tried turning her over but the starter just turned and turned with the battery light flickering on and off, I tried giving the fuel filter a good whacking to see if that would help but not much (if anything) improved.
I disconnected the MAF sensor when the truck was just about running and this resulted in the truck immediately dieing so I ruled that out (was wondering if I had dislodged anything whilst welding - but if so how come she ran fine yesterday?) I disconnected the air box and had a little sniff in the air intake where a miniscule amount of smoke/fumes where coming out and also the exhaust and whilst I could smell petrol I expected a stronger smell.
I had no tools on me at the time so couldnt take off the fuel filter or take a plug out to see if it was wet to check that fuel was getting through.
I dragged the slag home and there she sits as we speak, ****ing me off. I need all the help I can get on this one please as I am not a mechanic nor can I afford one at the mo as im REALLY skint
SO, waffle over, whats the next plan of action/ checks to make please chaps? All suggestions greatly appreciated.
And yes ive done a search and got absolutely nowhere.
Thanks.
