Up **** creek.
Yesterday having finished the welding on my rear arches, sills and inner wings I started her up and drove 3 miles home on very little fuel, I had no problems. Today I started her up and she sat idling fine, I suddenly thought "oh i better put some more fuel in in case it sucks all the **** up from the tank and blocks the fuel filter".

I put in 3 liters of the exact same fuel that I used to get the truck to and from the barn where we carried out the welding and started her back up. She started up great but then within a couple of minutes (by the time i got down our 150M drive when I went to accelerate I lost all power, I sat there in neutral trying to feather the pedal and try to get the revs up, the engine was very weak and the revs started getting lower and lower until they were below the usual idling speed and barely ticking over, and eventually the truck just died.

I tried turning her over but the starter just turned and turned with the battery light flickering on and off, I tried giving the fuel filter a good whacking to see if that would help but not much (if anything) improved.

I disconnected the MAF sensor when the truck was just about running and this resulted in the truck immediately dieing so I ruled that out (was wondering if I had dislodged anything whilst welding - but if so how come she ran fine yesterday?) I disconnected the air box and had a little sniff in the air intake where a miniscule amount of smoke/fumes where coming out and also the exhaust and whilst I could smell petrol I expected a stronger smell.

I had no tools on me at the time so couldnt take off the fuel filter or take a plug out to see if it was wet to check that fuel was getting through.

I dragged the slag home and there she sits as we speak, ****ing me off. I need all the help I can get on this one please as I am not a mechanic nor can I afford one at the mo as im REALLY skint:(

SO, waffle over, whats the next plan of action/ checks to make please chaps? All suggestions greatly appreciated.

And yes ive done a search and got absolutely nowhere.

Thanks.

When you were welding your rear arches, did you notice a fuel smell ?

You may have knocked, nudged or moved the fuel lines coming from the tank.

This could cause air in the fuel lines.

Also any fuel return lines are generally dependant on pressure from the engine, as far as I know.

But someone more clever than me will be along..

dippy you were right:D remove cap get someone to turn on ignition is pump working ,it should run for 4 seconds when ignition first swtiched on then go off till engine cranked ,if tanks empty you need a couple of gallons to get it to run properly but will empty tank once running

Whilst trying to start her I did quickly put my head under the truck and definately heard the pump working, do you think I should add a few gallons and try again? It did put literally 3 liters in (I measured it in 1L jugs as i had borrowed it from the father in laws jerry can and have to replace it)

cheers guys, its been a bitch at the moment, no sooner do i fix one problem another crops up, i love my landy but im so skint at the mo and have loads of stress with work/fam/money and at the mo this truck is adding to all the bull****. sorry if i seem stressed, just things getting on top of me at the mo. You really dont know how much i appreciate this.

Cheers:)

Charge your battery before you try to start her, you have to pull fuel down the lines to shove the air out, and if the battery went all flat you would have sense of humour failure big time. :D;)

cheers for the heads up mate, gonna go do it right now. Oh by the the way I dont know how i managed this but i forgot to put the filler cap back on before my "little adventure" only found out when I got back and found it next to the in laws gerry can  thought i may as well mention that in case it helps with the diagnosis.

try above ,still not right let us know will be sorted sooner or later ,but following logical path often cheap answer ,rather than fitting a load of parts till right

cheers will do, out of interest will she come to life quite quickly if this is the issue or will I have to turn her over for ages? and if so how long? ie: should I give up after 10 mins of on/off trying to start her or keep going?

usually the 4 seconds pump runs when ignition on,pump pushes 34psi in circular route injectors just take from the pressure,as circular air is bleed straight back to tank ,normally if you give it 2 or 3 cycles ignition on/off it go if not ,sender/pump unit intake blocked or other fault

Hi all, a quick update - SHES ALIVE! I got up at 7:30am and went out and put another 10L turned her over 3/4 times and she started straight up! been purring perfectly for the last 5 minutes. I would have never thought all i would have to do is add some more bloody fuel (didnt undertand the system as explained by you two top blokes).

I know I may have seemed a bit meladramatic last night but ive just spent a month welding her up and getting her shipshape for the winter, still need to find funds to sort out the guy who helped me, My old mans really ill, works bul**** and I havent got a pot to **** in and with 3 kids who all have birthdays Nov/Dec/Jan Xmas and the worry of the snow this winter (Without the Landy we are stranded) the stress was getting on top of me, my only de stress was me landy - and that was starting to become a nightmare.

Well thanks to dippypud and jamesmartin im going to work with a MASSIVE grin on my face today and one less stress to worry about, like I mentioned before you really dont know how much I appreciate this and how chuffed I am to be a member of this **** hot forum.

All I can say is a massive THANKS again. And thank f**k for the Landyzone:D:D:D
