Bleeding Clutch

Replacing the slave cylinder but a couple of questions before I start:
1/ - Rave states that you withdraw the cylinder from the gearbox along with the push rod. Is this correct or should the push rod stay put?
2/ - Rave also has what I think is an odd way of bleeding the system, pressing and releasing clutch pedal without tightening the bleed nipple in between, only doing so when all air displaced. Loads of different ways on various forums about bleeding but what way is best ?

1. the pushrod must stay put
2. the bleeding method from RAVE worked for me every time ..as long as the end of that tube you put on the nipple is always emerged in fluid you dont have to tighten the nipple cos no air will come backwards....be very patient and "pump" it untill no bubbles are coming out of that tube...and keep the tube as short as possible to not "suck" back the air from it before it leaves... a better method is to attach a tube to a funnel, fill it with brake fluid all the way then attach it to the bleed nipple and you can watch from the top of the funnel how the bubbles are coming out.

Bled mine sat with a nielson vacuum pump.replaced my slave with the clutch, bled through, nice light clutch pedal but it became hard again.with the hand held vacuum pump its the best its ever felt. worth the £18.

Disaster - not only did the push rod stay inside the bell housing, it promptly fell off along with the plastic clip. I have recovered the clip but am struggling to get the push rod out. Do you think I could leave it to rattle about and put a new one on instead !!?

I would try and retrieve with a magnet. rattling round could destroy clutch and or dmf.

Not what I wanted to hear but understandable !! On the other hand could wait and then do clutch, DMF, release lever and rod all at the same time !!

Recovered the rod with a magnet; rod in particularly bad state, bent and very little left of the ball at the end. Didn't bother with the plastic clip just used the slave to hold rod in place and pushed it all together. Bleeding was a doddle, followed advice here regarding RAVE and everything tight and working. Thanks guys.
