Blanking/ Removing Egr Valve?

Hello,
Seen(on the forum) a lot of experiences from EGR blanking;didn't make it till now(as I want to replace the whole thing with a straight one), but, I just took off the vacuum hose from the EGR valve(and plugged it with a screw) and don't know if the results are the same as blanking kit.
It's a Td5 '99 and seems to work fine...
Any experience with that?

errrrrrrrmmmmmmm NO!!!!! the EGR valve stands for eghaust Gas Recirculation Valve. and to blank it off you have to fit a plate over the eghaust manifold. Just removing the little pipe doesn't stop the exhaust fumes from been recirculated into the inlet manifold.

Thank you for your quick answer,Redhand!
I took out the valve and seen that the small valve that lets the smoke comming in, is suppose to move up and down ,opening and closing the acces of the smoke in the EGR and manifold. The only thing responsible for that movement can be only the diaphragm under the vacuum of this hose, ordered by the ECU. I just seen it on the Haynes manual.....and thought "what if I just pull the hose off......."
I'm thinking of a kit from scorpionracing, but till then, I made experiments.

Don't buy anything from scrapiron Racing. they will rip you off and sell you ****e. Look on ebay lots of egr blanking kits on their and for half the price that scrapiron charge.

Blanked my EGR at the weekend. Made a blank at work from 5mm stainless plate and also made a blank for the inlet duct from ally rather than replacing the top hose (cheapskate aint I, he he) The gunge was terrible in the duct but cleaned it before continuing. Engine seems a bit more responsive but that may also be down to the new air intake I fabricated. Must get the intercooler flushed soon though, I'm sure that will improve things further.

The effect of blanking is probably marginal UNLESS your valve is stuck open, like I reckon it was on my TD5, when you should get a real difference. In my case, it restored the performance to what I remembered from the past. However if you use the occasion to clean out the intercooler etc THAT in itself could help quite a bit.

It mentioned in one of the landy mags that you should remover the position sensor (Round black thing with vacume pipe) off of the top of the injection pump when doing an egr blank but doesn't say why. So..... Why?

Blanked my mates off last week just undid the 2 allen keys on the manifold threw the whole valve and pump etc in the bin and fitted the blanking plate straight onto the manifold. and fitted a new top hose. Whole job took less than 30 minutes and was carried out in Halfords carpark.

What about the position sensor on the top of the injection pump. Why remove it like it says in Landrover international Mag. Just because its redundant or because it improves somthing?

IF you're referring to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and if it's a Tdi 300, you should absolutely NOT remove this !!!

The only electrical connections to be removed are from the top of the EGR valve itself, along with the vacuum hose which should be blocked with something.

Just blanked today my EGR and replace the whole thing with a replacement kit;untill today I drive my car with the vacuum hose(the thin one) from the EGR unplugged and blanked it with a screw to avoid loosing vacuum. I just want to say that there is a very small difference now, after blanking the EGR in the proper way , than before when just pull off the vacuum;maybe a 10-20% improvement in the power due to the un-obstructed air path between the intercooler and manifold.

So, if you want to know how your car will behave after EGR blanking just try to unplug the vacuum hose and unless your valve is stuck open, you will see a real improvement in the driving behaviour.
I tryed it in the last 3-4000 miles.
Just remember I have a td5 Discovery.
