Blank Sat Nav, No sound from radio

I have a problem on this low mileage, one owner P38.

I disconnected the battery for approx 2 hours. On reconnection I have no sound from the radio, although it works, & the sat nav screen is illuminated but blank.
In the boot, the sat nav is on the right & it keeps ejecting the disc then accepting it & this keeps cycling.

I did however, clean up all the multiplugs in the kick panels both sides.

Anyone got any idea's?

Corroded connectors, or battery disconnected before the LED on the SatNav went out.

It had a good 20 mins before disconnection. This car is in pretty good shape, looms & connectors all ok.
How can I get it to work again? Is there a known procedure?

Trial and error as far as I know Rick. Could be the disk has failed or the head is dirty on the Satnav, could be the flash memory has failed. Never had to do one on the P38, only the L322 when it's usually connectors or water damage so guessing is easier.

Friend of mine has an 01 Vogue, on purchase the Sat nav drive was missing and radio didn't work, sourced a replacement satnav which made the nav work but still no radio and it turned out to be the amp which produces the sound for the radio and the satnav.

Not sure if it helps but he had to replace the amp to get the nav to work properly. However, ejecting the disk and not displaying anything on the screen doesn't bode well for the Satnav drive. I'd go with a new disk first call and go from there!

Flash memory in the sat nav has been corrupted. When power is disconnected to either the box, or battery is disconnected it can and often does wipe the flash memory.

As the sat nav mutes the radio/cd for voice commands it seems the system is muted. the blank screen not getting the menu display is another indicator. (disconnect the nav comp. and the radio should function)

I dont know anyone who has the capacity to reflash the memory any more, so afraid it is a new or replacement sat nav computer !

No sound can be a dodgy resistance in the steering wheel controls sending the wrong signal to the head unit putting it in MUTE mode.

Your handbook explains how to disconnect the battery!

I'm fully aware of what's in the handbook. It's not battery disconnect that I have a problem with.

I'll try the sat Nav disconnection & get the radio working, & take a look at the sat nav software. Everything is original with this range rover, & barely previously touched other than the required servicing.

I've never had this problem in the past, & never had a sat nav problem occur while in my care.
I need to source this software if this is a common problem with these.

Just a thought before major panicing, clean the laser pickup on unit, spitting cd,dvd is classic drive error and while it may not fix it it's worth a go.

Cleaning up the multi plugs in the kick panels is often not so effective as actually wiring them out by getting rid of the connector by soldering each wire and covering with heat shrink wrap. The corrosion in the plugs can be so bad that the back of the connector is eaten through.

Rick, if you can get the Sat Nav software and do a reflash, there's loads out there that could use it. I ended up sourcing a used drive and replacing after lots and lots of research trying to find anyone in the EU who could reflash. No one in the USA either it seems. if you can do it, you'll have a global monopoly !!

Personally i find the sat nav pretty good it does the same routing as my Garmin, the only thing it lacks is postcode input.. but then again, i like to check where I am going first so find it no big problem !

The connected are not an issue on this vehicle.
I did publish a procedure for fault finding on these P38's that is used today in many independents & main dealers garages, & checking the integrity of these connectors is listed in primary must do's before any component is replaced.

Soldering these connectors takes 10 to 12 mins each side.

All the connectors on this vehicle are like new.

I will indeed clean the disc & run a cleaner through the drive unit as it's very possible this disc hasn't been removed since it was published in 2003, although I'm not sure it would blank the sat nav screen.

I'm coming to the conclusion the drive unit could of well fried, or lost it's data, & muting the radio. I'll try & disconnect the sat nav & see if we can get the radio audio back.

I managed to sort the other problems out that a few others failed at, but it's annoying to get the customer back for this unrelated problem. I knew these sat navs were a problem but never had a problem before & I see a lot of range rovers at my workshop. Fecking things!
