Hi just fitted a 200 tdi disco lump into my 1984 90 lapped all valves in set valve clearences replaced timing belt timing spot on used correct tools to set up but engine gives out loads of black smoke from exhast when accelerating med to hard engine runs perfect could it be the pump timing out slightly ? any suggestions cheers Kev.

It's most probably just too much fuel being injected. There should be an adjustment on the injection pump (not quite sure where) which will fine tune the amount of fuel being injected which should reduce the smoke / stop it completely. That's the system on the older diesel engines anyway.
