Freelander 1 black smoke

freelander1 td4.black smoke on hard boot been like this for some time, now getting what i think is turbo whine sometimes, tried the normal probs.intercooler pipes vac pipes ect. bit lost now any ideas please

Check boost pipes carefully, as sometimes they split or wear in a hole in hidden locations.

Has you done recently any work in it? How many km/miles has?
I'll give you some ideas that I'm sure you know but maybe you don`t remember:
Black smoke usually is due to rich mix air-fuel (or enters more fuel than should or enter less air than it should).
Possible initial easy motives:
- Dirty air filter
- Leak in intercooler pipes
- EGR valve clogged
- Hose intake clogged
- turbo failure
- vac pipes and valves
- ...
furthermore, black smoke is normal when you step on it, especially if you have traveled a lot of the city.
