Black Plastics...

Has anyone got any suggestions for cleaning the black plastic in the boot area?

I have a large dog and the back is always getting dirty, i have tried all sorts to get it to look half descent, but nothing seems to work.

Use another vehicle to carry the dog?

I have two dogs, same problem. I think it goes with the territory

Use a trailer for the dog.

What I did with therear of mine was paint it with black hammerite carpets everything.
I got bored dipping the brush so I poured it in andjust smeared it about, looks good as new now

I had a German Shepherd the size of a small pony. He loved to travel in the back of the Freelander.

I know the problem - so much comes from the muddy feet - the rest from an inquisitive nose!

Mr Muscle multi purpose cleaner - the one in the orange spray bottle - works best.

Followed up by Autoglym Bumper & Trim Gel.

Don't know if this will work in your situation, but I was told once by a car valeter if you get polish on the black trims on the outside of the car the best way to get rid of the marks was to wipe them with a cloth with boiled linseed oil on it. Must say it works a treat brings the trims up like new.

brings the oils in the plastic back to the surface, making them black again

I am talking about the plastic trims inside the boot, so using any back to black type products would leave residue which would attract dog hair

althoug I belive the inside plastic is diferent, but no harm to try on a "hidden" part

Blimey thats a new one on me, never heard of this method before. Would be interesting to see the same result using boiled linseed oil. I know I did mine using the oil and they came up like new but sadly I didn't do a comparison like you.

would have thought that a cleaning agent formulated for vinyl / rubber floors would do the job
.. then finish it off with a plastic/rubber protectorant .. like 'armor-all' .. or similar
