Am new to this forum so apologies if this has been asked before.
I have a late 2007 FL2 GS TD4 which has done 49k miles.
Recently there has been an annoying smell of burning oil entering the cabin on hard acceleration and when slowing dwon. I think I have tracked this down to some oil like substance oozing out of the air filter to engine pipe. This is coming from the joint at the left side (looking from front) of the engine which is after the connection to what, I presume, is the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) inlet to the air intake. Indeed when I took the pipe off to clean it out then there was no "gunk" to the air filter side of that connection. The Oil/gunk slowly drips onto the hot engine and cause the smell. I have taken the pipes off, cleaned them out and made sure they are seated correctly but the problem has recurred within a week.
So the question is .. is the gunk simply a by product of the EGR system and/or do I can do anything to rectify this seepage. I know that on a number of other vehicles that the EGR is ofen blanked off .. is this an option too ?
