I have a '97 300TDi and was poking around at the weekend stopping the airbox from rattling itself to death and noticed that to the rear of the rocker cover set slightly below it (and just infront of the bulkead) are three or four pieces of what look like vertical hollow plastic rods with a sheppards hook in the end. All seems to be moveable up and down by a couple of inches...

I have looked on all the technical diagrams and can't find reference to them can someone put me out of misery ?

Thanks

They would be breather pipes from the sound of it, gearbox, transfer case etc. etc.
Transfer case & gearbox breather tube P/No. FRC9427/ FRC9430
Front & rear diff P/No. FTC2175 / FTC 2176
There are little breathers everywhere.

Parts books are generally a better source of info in these cases.
