Bit of advice if you could

Ok hope this works, not tried to put a pic in before.

So I need to replace the bracket / bush supporting the rear prop onto the final drive, see picture. Doing it myself this time with the help of the brother in law. Last time landrover replaced it and cost me a fortune.
Now I've heard freelanders rip this bush to pieces especialy if you pull a caravan (which I do, wieghs about 1.5 ton fully loaded) and as this is the second one in two years i'm inclined to agree.

So...
Has anyone else experienced this at all?

Does anyone know if there is a stronger version available and is it any good?

Car is a 2002 Td4 es 3 door soft back with hard back fitted, used for commuting about 120 miles per week, green lanes about 50 miles per month, pulling caravan about 1000 miles per year. It's otherwise in great condition and no other problems apart from this.

Hi - this looks like the front mount for the diff. ( which I've just replaced) ??

30 minute job to do it yourself - bit fiddly. Remove the center bolts on the LHS & RHS mounts (Support the diff with a jack as it helps to remove/refit the bolts). This will give you a an extra inch or so when removing the mount. Remove the 3 bolts holding the front mount. Then remove/replace the mount. You might have to bend the front plate which houses the mount to free the mount its self.

You can buy a replacement part KHC500070 (about £15) or a after market Polyurethane Bush which will last longer. I used Power Flex on my previous cars - made the whole suspension stiff .

Does look the same, its the one nearest the top. Have already got the landrover part for this time but will consider the polybush path next time.

Just wondering how long this bugger is supposed to last?

Hi Mike
I replaced the front diff bush on mine with a poly one more money but has done 22,000 miles and of that about 3,000 towing a 1500kg caravan and so far so good

its called the centre bush. . . .then ya got a left and a right , the centre one is the worst to do, and its reccomended that a centre jig [lr special part] is used to make sure it is central, if not it will rock all the time and wear a lot quicker than normal [just my tupence worth] this might give you a clue

it is probably the most replaced part on a hippo, it is not expensive if you fit it yourself, but of the rubber ones lr part is the best, ie. longer lasting, and ming is right about alignment although there is not much room in mounts for mis alignment.
