Does anybody know where i can purchase some bio, local to me, to use only off rd of course cause i don't wanna pay tax on rd going bio. i've been informed only tonight that it doesn't store very well? I was going to buy as much as i could afford and shove it in the garage, how long would it keep?

fanx

If you buy from a garage the tax is included in the price.
Make your own and no tax to pay if you make and use no more than 2500lts per year.:)

I know its not bio but walking around macro yesterday and came across 15 litres of pure rapeseed oil for around £11.50 (worked out around 77p per litre) so could be worth a look.

Thats straight veg oil......same 2500lts rules apply but not all cars can use it coz its a bit tooo thick for some ip pumps.

It's straight veg oil but at least it won't have any red dye in it and most will mix it with derv or a little petrol to thin it out. 2500 litre rule is prob more oil than most ppl will use even running unmixed at 25-30mpg is around 13-15000 miles per year.

They cant effectively enforce the rule, but they have to set a limit somewhere!
Depends on your neighbours - my mate had an IBC of oil, and his neighbour stuck his nose in a complained to somebody. I think its nigh on impossible to prov how much oil you are actually using though - he only had a few hundred ltrs

You can get whats called a dual tank system, which uses your main diesel tank to store the veg oil. mYou then have a small jerry can sized fuel tank somewhere else, full of diesel. When you start your engine, the diesel is used. After a few mins, once the engine is warm, the oil is used, having been fed through a heat exchanger, to thin it. oil is then used throughout the journey. A few mins before you reach your destination, you press a button on the dash, which brings the diesel back into circuit, to "flush" your fuel lines clean of the oil. This totally alleviates the problems of thick cold gloopy oil congealin in fuel lines, and your poor fuel pump having a coronary, trying to move said oil. No more injector issues, as they only pump warmed less viscous oil, or diesel.

Kits are anywhere up to a grand, but at least you wont be replacing injectors, fuel pumps etc.

thats iinteresting, does it still supply the same amount of power for towing and green laning? i would like to try somthing like this diesel down here is crazy all about 117 at min. Makes you wonder if it is wirth using red lol

I just stick Tesco veg oil in straight ... mixed about 1/3 veg to 2/3rds diesel. Veg costs about 79p litre ... saves a tenner a tankfull. ;)

Mind, I also stick any other oil I find in, mixed with diesel, if it's old engine or gearbox oil I filter it, but it seems to run happily on anything ... ;)

The lad I knew, used to use oil from local chippy and takeways. He would filter it throuve a seive, and then progressively filter from 20 micron, down to 5 micron, using a kit he'd cobbled together using filters for domestic water. The kit was all plumbed together complete with a central heating pump, and a small clear hose and nozzle for filling the car, or the storage tank in his garage. It's a bit messy to do, but is dirt cheap, as he was gettin the waster oil free. All he paid for was filters, the initial outlay for his setup, and I think he used kerosene or paraffin to thin the oil a little.

ANY oil that has been dug out of the ground is subject to duty!!
If you get dipped the nice HMRC boys will relive you of your car and fine you or stick you in the pokey....or all of them.
You will treated like you are using red diesel. Stick to veg oil as they arn't that bothered unless you try selling it without telling them.
