Can anyone recommend a supplier for a large bore exhaust system for my 'uprated' RR Classic 3.9 ? I'm looking for a minimum of 2.5 inch diameter.

cheers

Rob

Thanks for your comments !

The outlet from the turbo is 2.5 inch diameter, so I don't really want a system that is any less than this... The turbo has uprated oil seal that will handle low back pressure...

so, does anyone know of a exhaust system supplier for a RRC with a minimum diameter of 2.5 inch ?

SS Sports Exhaust from Rimmers or MM 4x4. Or Janspeed. Depends what you want to spend. Not sure on diameter but i've got a SS Sports system on mine and it's fookin big. Infact it must be 3 inches, or bloody close. Sounds beautiful to. Not sure if you'll get bigger off the shelf. Not sure you'd want bigger!

Have you got a turbo on your V8 then?! That I would like to see on a RRC!

My RRC V8 Turbo uses a turbo diesel middle and back box.

Cheers for the picture Pete, that looks really good. How did you do it then? How does it all work? I'm completely ignorant about turbos, pretty ignorant about engines generally! But have been learning pretty fast since buying the RR!:D Got any more pics? A wider view of the engine bay?

am intrigued, whats an uprated oil seal look like? what is different to a normal oil seal?

I'll nip outside and get some better pics in the next few days.

Mine was converted by Janspeed when it was new. A one-off "high pressure" set up reputed to produce over 300 bhp. Huuuuuge intercooler.

My turbo has just been re built by Turbo Dynamics in Christchurch (what an excellent service! They are highly recommended by me). It has has a twin seal modification to make it more suitable for exhaust systems with low back pressure. They have a really good website with information on turbos its Turbo Dynamics Ltd
Here's a picture of mine too, well just before I took it all to bits to recondition.

Thanks for the advise.

Deranged Rover.. is yours petrol or diesel?

Because, trust me on this, you won't find an 'off the shelf' exhaust system for a petrol V8 turbo. Mine uses the TD centre and back boxes, but everything in front of the middle box has bugger all in common with anything I've seen on a non-turbo and there aren't many turbo petrol classics about.

I think the only standard bit before the middle box is the nearside exhaust manifold, and the downpipe is totally different on that.

I suspect people in here thought you must be talking about a V8 because you mentioned a "lovely noise"...

My turbo was rebuilt last week by Turbo Dynamics (Christchurch) they have a really informative website. .. Turbo Dynamics Ltd. The service was superb too. The oil seal was replaced with a twin seal arrangement designed to work better with low exhaust restriction.

Here's a picture of mine, also a Janspeed conversion. It's all in pieces now whilst I tidy up the installation , getting ready to drive it to Le Mans in June!

Hi Pete,

Yes, my downpipe from the turbo is unique, but after that it is the same as any other V8 classic. So , I think that an 'off the shelf' big bore system will fit mine okay. Mine's 3.9 Efi on a g -plate, also intercooled it has a Zytec ECU, there's no airflow meter. She pulls like a train, running 8psi boost. I have no idea how many horsepower it was when it left the factory ...

Mine's got the zytec ECU as well, but it uses the AFM for something. Mine's a 3.5.

Mine's off to the Czech Republic in April / May.

One thing I do strongly suggest, be careful running 8 psi if yours is as it left Janspeed - mine needed a set of extra strong Omega forged pistons at around 80k miles which were very, very expensive.

It's also got a gearbox which currently sounds a bit rough...http://cid-f09fe2b28f11ecca.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Rangie box.mp3

Not pretty, but that's what putting 330 lb ft through a box rated at 290 lb ft does...

What is the original Janspeed boost setting ? Ouch that gear box is in pain!

Do you have any technical specifications for RR Janspeed conversions, such as boost setting, timing, plugs, oil spec etc etc ? I have a friend in the Range Rover Register who is looking for me.
