I am on my 3rd unit now in the last 12 months. It's such a damned pain taking the front bumper off etc just to fit a part that fails in a week or so.

Fitted 'version 3' today. Fired up okay, great, I thought finally a working Pre-heater and Parking Heater like I used to have, so I can get the Landy all warm and toasty using the 3 timers it has.

Nah, too good to be true. It stay on. Won't switch off, the cabin Timer Unit seems to be completely bypassed this time, as if the unit is hot-wired to be always-on.

After 40 mins, car's battery dead flat. Recharged, same thing, I cannot get this heater to switch itself off, and even the cabin fans keep running when I switch the Heater's Timer Unit to off (eg all the red lights go off). It never used to do that before.

Anyone heard of this? Suggest what to do? getting fed up losing half a day stripping the car down to fit duff heaters all winter. (£400 quid an' all)

I meant to add, it's version-3 of a repair. The brains now have a 1-inch long coil component soldered across some points that was not there before.

...I also meant to add, it's not the Run-Down switch-off cycle I am familiar with. It just stays on, full heat burn, drawing diesel from the Doer Pump, all the time. Even when I take the car keys out.

Come back to a warm car, that won't start coz the battery is flat !

You can check to see if you have a problem with the vehicles wiring easy enough. Test for 12 volts at pin 3 on the 6 pin FBH plug. If you are getting 12 volts there, the heater will run.
Can I ask, why do you have 3 timers when 1 is enough?
Also for the battery to run flat in 40 minutes, I'd guess it's on its way out anyway. The FBH uses about 40 Watts so a good Freelander battery should run it for hours without a problem.
The heater should shut it's self down when battery voltage drops below a set level. I can’t remember what that is off the top of my head.
