Hi all,

I'm, sure you are all fed up to the back teeth hearing about air suspension problems. I'm sorry but my Betsey (Disco Td5) has given up.
It first went down on the off side only, after pulling a very big caravan down to Billing land rover show. Got in started her up, pumped up fine, drove home, no problems. It stayed up for about a week, until I parked with the near side up on the pavement. She went down again on the off side. Started her up, pumped up straight away.
So she's been OK for about a month now, I've even pull the same caravan to the land rover max show in Stoneleigh last weekend with no problems at all.
Drove to work this morning she felt a bit funny going over the speed ramps. I checked the ride height when I got out it was pumped up OK. Went back to her about a hour later and she was down on the bump stop on the off side and about half way down on the near side and refuses pump up. I can't hear the compressor either.
So she is now outside feeling very sorry for herself.
I hope someone can shed some light on my Betsey's plight and tell me it's only going to be pennies to fix!............. I wish.

Thanks Louby:eek:

It will cost - sounds like the compressor has burned out, and you need 2 new airbags.

Both are regularly on eBay - 2nd hand compressors going for about £100+ and 2 x new airbags (I don't believe in 2nd hand ones of these) for £150+.

I don't know about the compressor, but I'm told replacing the airbags can be done relatively easily by the home mechanic.

OK thanks, not good news. will have to ask the 'royal bank of daddy' for some pennies.

Hi Louby, I do kind of feel sympathy for you but to be honest you have been given several warnings by your car and have chosen to ignore them.

The first thing I would be doing is to check the fuse (in the engine bay fusebox) which relates to the compressor - from memory it's no. 5 and rated at 30amp. These are fuseable links rather than std fuses, so you might have to search a bit wider if you need one.

Assuming it's not the fuse, then the next likely candidate is your compressor - 2nd hand off Ebay £100 or new about £250+vat.

Your compressor has gone because it has been working overtime to stem a leak in the rubber airsprings imo, so you'll need to replace both of those as well. Paddocks do a pair for about £150 and it's an easy fix.

Get the compressor working before replacing the air springs.

Good luck.
