205/80 was a factory standard for 90's. The 110s do look a bit low with them. Standard 16" steel wheels will cope with both (opens can of worms), but nothing much wider.
Your 110 will benefit from 10% higher gearing with the larger tyres, and maybe even a better ride - tyre dependant of course.
Long wheel base Landies were equipped as standard with 7.50 x 16 tyres for decades, and they are not particularly wide. Unless you're planning on doing a lot of mud work, very wide tyres are not always a good idea.

7.50x16 were offered as an option on Ninetys, and are probably a better tyre for the than 205 80 16s, which as yu say were standard.
Sadly 7.50x16 seem to be ridiculously expensive these days.

I thought 7.5 is the standard size and everything else is an option. All my fenders have had those.

No idea about defenders.
Owners book for my 89 lists 205 first, but as far as I know you could have either on a new vehicle then?

Back in the day Wrangler were a very good tyre!
And I am sure the new ones are too.I think one of the insas is a copy of them, cant remember which atm.
