Best place for new gear box

As above I'm in Essex and it seams my lt77 gear box is going to need replacing soon, since the 200 tdi conversion the clunking is getting worse, clunks through 3rd 4th and 5th had a new disco tranny on and a new front diff but it defo. The box that's going to be needed to be done next , I've got ash crofts near Luton, but do you guys have any other suggestions, I did consider a second hand box off the likes off the bay but I might as well get a reconned one and be done instead of taking chances with a second hand one.
 
I did the same, 200 con different diff, disco tranny but still has play in it. But mines not that bad. Ask yourself do you need to do it.

i been looking at these Land Rover Transmissions Specialists seen a couple of posts on other sites that were happy with them.
 
Did you check the condition of the splines on the output shaft whilst the T box was off, also rear balljoint and bushes can cause a clonk, did on mine and I could hardly feel any play in the ball joint when I replaced it.
 
A friend of mine had a recon gearbox/tbox for his disco from AW transmissions. He was very pleased with them and spoke highly of the bloke that runs it. He had a couple of problems with the t box and both times AW couldn't have been more helpful.

I've also heard good things about Bristol Transmissions.

It may be worth speaking to your local landy garage, I asked in mine and because of the lack of couriers required, the price was very competitive indeed.:D
 
just got a email back from these guys and it turns out that you have to add the vat on top of the price, plus there is collection and delivery for around 35+vat either way.

so do ashcrofts and it works out alot more,thats why as much as i want them to do my lt77 it's just too much,also i live just in the free delivery area for aw transmissions,i don't think any that i have seen advertising recon add vat to the price advertised.

this is a copy of the email they sent me this morning.

Hi Adam
Have tried to ring you this morning and left a brief message on your mobile. The prices on the website do not include VAT so,you would have to add on 20%. As for delivery / collection of the old unit you would have to add on a further £35 each way plus the VAT.
Can i ask you what the prblem is with your current Transfer box?

they want to know the fault so as to know if yours is likely to be beyond economic repair and so add surcharge,later q boxes often are
 
time to put some more pennies away mate,be gentle with your box and give it a service while you save up,thats what i've got to do but there must be someone closer to you offering this service.
 
my box is on my work bench in the garage, it had the grub screw that holds the selector folk fell out and has chewed a few gears, so it needs replacing asap. so its the wifes bmw ad my work van for now - sad times.
 
hi guys

just joined just got me sen a landy to do up had it about a week now and fricking gear box has gone reverse went and 5th got reverse back took it to a mechanic and he said its foobard and one got any ideas where to get a lt77 gearbox from or recon??

yeah i think so he said he got reverse working but he told me not to go for 5th when im driveing for time been till i get anotherone sorted i m not sure im not that knowlageable in gearboxes??
what u guys think??
