Best oil & price for TD5 Engine?

Same as title? Plus anyone deal with none genuine Rotor & main body filters? are the any good or should i stick to genuine?!!!

Ovoline Tractor Universal, from your local Agricultural merchants. £65 for 25 L

Stick to genuine filters. They dont cost that much more than generic ones and you can sleep soundly knowing your filters are doing what they were designed to do.
I use Castrol GTX for diesels 10w40 in my TD5. I change it every 3000 miles but then I did pick up a 45 gallon drum for £50 at a receiver sale a few years ago.
The used oil gets recycled into fuel so nothing goes to waste.

Cheers Guys i think i shall use good oil & genuine filters & change the rotor filter more often & then the oil twice in one service span.

5w-30 Ford Spec oil is what is the perfect grade for the TD5, here's a few, some of which you should be able to pick up at reasonable prices

Shell Helix F 5w-30
Mobil Super FE 5w-30
Fuchs XTR 5w-30
Castrol Magnatec A1 B1 5w-30
Comma XTECH 5w-30

The genuine filters will be made by companies like Mann Hummel, Fram etc so no need to go for genuine just based on quality reasons just steer clear of Britpart and you'll be alright

local motor factors is probably a good place to start

car companies dont usually make parts, they just assemble cars

People have had problems with them on here before, especially fuel filters. They are just poor quality, they have to be to enable them to sell you a service kit for a tenner.

It's one of those cases where you get what you pay for

when you use Mann Hummel, Mahle, Fram, Perflux etc you dont get any problems

motor factors might do you a deal if you bought a few filters at a time

I have seen a load of OPINIONS here suggesting using expensive retail market oils, but not a single REASON for doing so.

Come on all you experts out there - tell me why your expensive DIY Market retail oil is better for a TD5 (or any other Landy engine) than Ovoline Tractor Universal. Come on now guys, you made the statements like you know what you are saying, so now tell us WHY. Reasoned explanations.

PS - my TD5 Disco, chipped, is now on 65,000 miles, and the last 50k of that is on Ovoline Tractor Universal. I even spoke to them (Brett Oils at the time) about it, and they gave me a great explanation of the pros (many) and cons (none really) of using this great lube oil.

fecking waste of time, as long as the oil meets the specs and is a decent known trade brand eg GM or comma oils-much else is a waste unless your running modified lumps, then amsol or redline oils make mobil one look crap preformance wise

Sounds about right to me

The Minimum spec for the TD5 is ACEA A1 B1 and the preferred grade is 5w-30

The Comma and Fuchs oil you can get for about 13 quid for 5 ltrs which is reasonable

Tractor Universal will only usually be cheaper than that if you buy a 20 or 208 litre barrel and is not A1 B1 approved
