I changed my clutch a few moths ago, it has been making noise ever since.
When I received the clutch and took it out of the box the springs were making lots of noise, it seemed like they were too loose? Is it normal for the springs to be noisy?
Also, I think my mechanic did a not so good install. The clutch works but when I pull off I get some jerking, it is not smooth at all. Very noisy when I put her in neutral and take my foot off the clutch. The noise goes away when I put the slightest pressure on the clutch pedal.

So anyway, I have decided that I am going to install a new complete clutch kit again!!
This time a different (more professional," I hope") mechanic will do the install.

My question is, what is the best complete clutch kit that I can get for my 1999 300tdi 90?

Thanks.

Normally I wouldn't replace the clutch slave cylinder unless it's leaking.. but on a 90/110/Defender, I would advise a new, non-Britpart cylinder while you have it all apart.
The reason for this is that it's easy to disturb the clutch pushrod that operates the fork and if any of that falls out of place, you'll need to remove the gearbox again to get it all nicely in position  The Discovery flywheel housing seems to have a bigger hole for the slave cylinder so it's easier to change without the rubber dust cover snagging things while you pull it out.

I now go with-
Valeo Clutch plate and cover
NSK or quality release bearing
Britpart HD clutch fork kit (with spigot bush)
Quality slave cylinder.

Do it all, in one go, and your clutch will last your years with no maintenance!

I would bet its not your mechs fault, its just a cheap clutch, you supplied it and they fitted it as requested.
The cheap ons also judder when pulling away and especially slow speed reversing.
Also worth checking flywheel for flatness when the gearbox is next out

Finally all done.
New clutch kit (valeo) new slave and master cylinder(LR Brand)., HD clutch fork.
She feels like a new girl again. I am a happy camper and cant wait to carry her to the island and beat the **** out of her again.

Also change the bushings and the main thingy (adjustable)on the rear A-arm thingy :) she feels nice and tight again.

What was the make of the removed clutch. Always good to know.

Years ago, I used to replace tractor clutches - and the number of folk who wanted a cheapo clutch fitting always amazed me - the proper cerametallic plates were expensive, but lasted years - the cheapo ones were carp.
Since tractors moved to wet clutches, its no longer a problem ( for me !!)

The previous owner of mine got a local garage to put a clutch in, in reverse when its cold it shakes like an alchey on the way to the pub!!
The receipt doesn't say the make
