Part no is LYG101190 for the damper bolt if anyone is interested - it's a stretch bolt so has to be renewed.

Reason I need a new one is the timing cover has to come off so I can 1) replace the broken tensioning guide, 2) get the chain off to check if it's stretched.

There's no sealant AT ALL between the carrier and head - wtf!

Need to grind down a hex key to lever the injectors out next.

Local firm are going to pressure test the head for 35+VAT - very reasonable I though.
 
I must have missed something.........why are the injectors coming out for a HG swap ?

and yes its a Buick design but Rover adapted it for their projects, there were once some very rare cast iron heads for the engine from the old Buick 215, straight swap over but with a greater flow rate than Rover ones

SD1 and 10 bolts then surpassed these from memory but for stroking these engines the old Pontiac (GM brand so Buick etc all part of it) used to be the way to go and would get you up to 5.5L with some work
 
Injectors are coming out because 1) I'm replacing the seals and washers, 2) the company doing the pressure test wanted them out, 3) I want to clean all the **** off them
 
Injectors all out - used a 6mm hex key with a chamfer ground on the inner side of the short end, where the copper washers sit looks a bit dirty so need to figure out how to clean down inside there, washer on no5 seems a lot thinner than the others which is odd.

The injector seats are all good with no obvious cracks (had no derv in oil anyhow)

And the good news is JAW engineering passed the head from a holding pressure perspective, yay!

Started to clean up the cam carrier, I thought there was no sealant on it but I found just 1 line of it running down one side, and some of it was blocking on of the small oil channels, not good. Cleaned most of it off before remembering to take a photo:

Anyhow will finish it off in the parts washer tomorrow - going out for birthday beers :)

Will put new washers and o-rings on after that then clean the head and rebuild it.

Cleaning the head seems to be a never ending task, started to clean it out with parrafin - due to all the caked on oil and sludge remnants - thinking maybe I should have just left the internals as is now.

Will get some fresh paraffin tomorrow and see how I go.

On the plus side my parts washer pump decided to start working again - bizarre.
 
So, my parts washer was way too small for the head.

I nipped to the local pet shop and bought a jumbo litter tray, then to B&Q and picked up another 16 litres of parrafin.

Half way through the clean:

And all done, flushed with fresh parrafin, and blown out with the air compressor - needs a good period to sit and evaporate off now:

It's not spotless, I can't get to some of the areas bu the valve springs, but it's LOADS cleaner.

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning down the injector bores, if you look at the picture there's some sooting caked on at the bottom of mine...
