Benefits/downsides on removing EGR valve

I've heard plenty at shows with a straight through pipe fitted. Not too loud either. The turbo shuts them up.
I've got one in the shed awaiting fitting but i need to get the head gasket sorted first, then an MOT. Just discovered it ran out last Wednesday
Sound out your MOT tester before removing it, or ask on here for someone with a Landy friendly tester.

Thanks. I’ll have a look for a pipe and ask the local garage that does my mot’s - the last 3 have been fine with no mention of emissions or anything more than an advisory so they seem pretty fair

I'm lucky as my tester is a mate. When i said i was looking at fitting a decat downpipe to my Ibiza, he advised against it. I argued that it would bring the boost in at lower revs and is a popular mod, again he said not to bother, but this time smiled. I said i was going to get one and swap it around at MOT time. He then said that one was already on the car...
I knew the previous owner had had it remapped. I didn't know he'd put a decat on.
But wouldn't that mean a failure? i asked, again he just smiled.

I think, as long as it passes the emissions test, there is nothing they can do. And as long as it has one box it'll be fine for noise.

Don't need any box, they don't sound too loud without one.

No. It's biscuits. Chocolate biscuits...
Usually about a tenners worth at a time. I wouldn't mind but he still gives me a failure now and then

Should probably start a new thread (sorry for the hijack!) but can anyone recommend a decent option for pipe or one/makes to steer clear of?

I bought mine at Great Billing 2019 and it's not fitted yet. There are systems for sale on ebay. Just check the feedback.
Or wait until the summer and go to a show. It looks like we might be allowed out again

Ooh Billing 2021 - now there’s an idea! Conveniently it’s a few days after my 40th so might even get away with spending some money !!
