Hi guys

I am just thinking ahead really as I don't have a defender 90 yet but can I legally fit series 88 rear bench seats in the rear of say a 97-98 defender 90 or do I have to fit side facing rear seats.

if I can fit the bench seats in do I need seat belts and whats the legals of having kids in the back.

just thinking if I end up getting a van without rear seats in it that's all :)

i did this, you can have inward facing ones without seatbelts. don't think you're supposed to have kids in there, i wouldn't anyway

Sorry the last couple of landies I have had have been disco's one a 5 seater and the last one was a 7 seater and before them I had s11a's and 111's so I am not up to speed with now :(

and to everyone else sorry I will search

When tratterers talk about bench seats I always think of these:

don't have to apologise cornish, a lot of the threads don't give 100% definitive answers for your exact question. I just asked my insurer and rang up the Department For Transport to make exactly sure

Yeah I searched it earlier but as you say its a bit sketchy so with everything I have read it looks like I can fit bench seats, seat belts need to be approved but don't have to have them fitted, fwd facing seats can be fitted but seat belts have to be fitted aswell.

mite look into fitting just two fwd facing seats in the back as I will only need two seats in the back which will allow me to have some room in the back for luggage or what ever and kids will have to go in the front.

its only if a few of us go fishing or go to the van but it will mainly be adults anyway just every now and then kids will be coming :)
