Hello all

Been a while since I was on here. I thought I would update you with my P38's progress.

It started smoking really badly on start up and pulling away so I took a punt on a 2nd hand 4.6 engine with 72K on the clock. It has gone in and seems to be working very nicely so far.

The heater fans have been cutting out intermittently. Also the associated relays were running very hot, upon investigation it was the regulators which have been causing a high resistance which then caused the relays to run hot and melt the contacts and the base of the fuse box! So new fuse box and some bits of wiring and two new blowers.

On very hot days the AC would work intermittently. I put it down to the AC pump giving up when the under bonnet temperature got too much. Luckily the new engine came with the pump but it seems to be doing the same thing! any ideas?

Front drive shaft had alot of play in its UJ so that has been replaced

Gear box oil cooler also replaced as it was leaking like a sieve so have the associated pipes.

The plastic unions for my cooling pipes have failed so I have replaced these.

My cruise control stopped working and I traced it back to an air hose with a hole in it just behing the EAS pump.

A very busy and very expensive period but its still going 147K and a new engine

I am replacing the coolant hoses tommorrow as they have started to balloon

Oh and I have a small aquarium in my drivers side headlight which will be replaced with a 2nd hand one

Cheers

Ron

glad the new engine is doing ok,dont forget to feed the fish in the aquarium though will you.:D:D;)

Nice one Ron, it's good to see someone relishing the challenge of sorting the issues with their P38. You are an inspiration to us all!

:praise:

The intermittent air con is probably the compressor clutch. Try taking off the nut in the centre of the clutch, remove the washer behind it and then replace the nut. That should fix it.
