So I know everybody slates Britpart, but are Bearmach just as bad, or have I been unlucky?

My 300tdi has been ticking away and I decided to change the fuel lift pump on advice on here.

I paid a couple of extra quid to avoid britparts. I fitted the pump and was surprised to find the ticking was still there.

I took it off this afternoon to make sure I had fitted it properly, and couldn't believe how crap this pump is. The priming lever does not come into contact with the cam lever, and the cam lever does not touch the part which must attach to the diaphragm.

I've now replaced it with a Delphi pump which seems a lot more solid, and my defender is finally tick free!

Have I just been unlucky or are bearmach parts as bad as britpart?
 
britpart like bearmach are the main wholesalers to the trade if you buy cheap pattern from either ,you run the risk of it been crap ,though both sell branded and genuine too,the issue is with retailers trying to under cut each other
 
I've had a few bearmach bits and bobs and they do seem to be a higher quality, even edging on OEM. I definitely wouldn't put them in the ****part pile
 
pattern = not great doesnt matter which box it comes in.
OEM (ie a "G" suffix on the PN) is OEM, same stuff whatever box it the BP from the stealers may well have been OEM.

I fit OEM to mine, unless a dire emergency.

I have a great many of those :eek:. To be kinda fair, all the small (and I stress small) britpart bits I've fitted have been ok. Prop was **** and exploded and I'm waiting on the a frame balljoints to spontaneously burst into flames but apart from that they've been kinda ok
 
I think it depends on which parts you are looking for. I recently bought two Brit part thermostats and both were crap. One was an 88 degree one which ran at the same temperature as the 80 degree one. The Bearmach one I replaced them with is a lot better.
I also bought two Brit part sender unities both failed within a year. Bearmach much better.
Some Brit parts seem fine. I changed all the bushes for Brit part ones four years ago and they seem fine. A Brit part rear exhaust tail pipe section lasted two years before it rusted through but it was very cheap and it shows. Maybe we ought to have a section on here with what last and what doesn't

But what's the difference though? They are both essentially suppliers and not manufacturers and even for bearmach it would make sense to source a cheap manufacturer. For all we know both ****part and bearmach get numerous parts from the same manufacturer, its very likely. So why the difference in quality?

Don't get me wrong I would choose bearmach over ****part any day but I'm just curious
 
i thought they both pressed there own parts. But are able to procure genuine bits hence the prefix G on some.

I bet neither of them have their own factory, they buy from pattern parts manufacturers all over the globe, it just so happens that the best prices now come from China and India.it is simply a business decision, why pay to run a factory when you can but in parts for less? I do think the perception pod quality plays a big Part in it, bearmach seems to have a better image than brit Part so we assume the parts are better quality, would be interested on doing a like for like comparison on some items from each,I don't know maybe the cheapest hub oil seals and bearings from both And seeing if they are the same,I bet that of done over a large enough sample you would find a lot of cross over between them on the budget lines.
 
I put a set Bearmach Diff Mounts on my Freelander in November 13 then when MOT test due in May I was issued with an advisory stating that diff mounts are worn. Garage found cracks in the bushes, the on-line seller blamed the vcu without any inspection, frankly a cop out, nothing wrong with the vcu. mechanic adamant failure due to soft bushes being fitted by whoever made these for Bearmach, who interestingly are not responding to emails only to advise of a quality problem. Original mounts lasted 6 years, replacements lasted 5 years, don't know who made those, Bearmach less than 6 months. So I suppose it is a little bit of hit or miss no matter who the supplier is.

I have used britpart in the past on a couple of components and no problem interesting that the turbo boost solenoid was boxed Land Rover.

iirc, onus is on seller to prove item was fit if 6 months or less.. you were a tad over.
 
even buying a part from britpart and the same from bearmach won't prove anything.

iirc, they buy parts in batches from whoever is cheapest/ or whatever evaluation.

so you could buy part x in jan and again six months later and they could be different manufacturers.

even the oem bit is bollocks, as i've seen some say it just means at one time the manufacturer were an oem supplier to landrover for a part... not the part you ordered or they are still the oem or they use the same equip.

it's all a bit of a minefield
