Hi Folks,

I have a 2001 Freelander TD4 and am a relative novice with mechanical work, although I have done some work on previous cars.

My Freelander has two noises which I'm puzzling over.

The first is a high pitched noise a bit like the noise crickets make in tropical countries. It's not terribly loud and coming from the front passenger side corner somewhere. It happens a good proportion of the time I'm driving the car. Seems to be getting slowly worse. I'm wondering if its a wheel bearing going. Thoughts?

I also get a kind of 'tock-tock-tock' noise when I go round tight-ish right hand corners. This is from the same general area of the car. I'm thinking drive-shaft, maybe?

Grateful for any thoughts on the possibilities. I find when you ask the experts they'll often go "Oh, yeah! That's your x, y or z going..."

So that's what I'm hoping for here! ;-)

Cheers,

Matt :)

Hi guys,

Many thanks for these replies. I'll do a bit of reading and see what I can come up with. The 'tock-tock' noise is getting worse, which at least means it should get easier to diagnose...

I'll also try tightening the bolt under the glove box! You never know, it could be the cicadas! ;-)

Matt :)
