Disco 2 Battery terminals - shims or new terminals

Jap spec just means smaller diameter battery terminals that ROW (rest of world), see my pic above of the converter shims to overcome exactly your problem.

I've seen batteries with small posts (assume they're all still lead) - but I've only seen these with small batteries in 4 cyl cars; I know there are caps you can get (lead or zinc alloy) that slip over the small posts. The battery I have is heavy duty and posts look normal - contacted manufacturer and they said they are not aware of any post "size issues"! I'm just thinking maybe the previous battery had posts at the higher end of the diameter spec and this battery has posts at the lower end of the diameter spec; not much in it, but the terminals will not tighten snugly like they did before! Perplexing to say the least!

Yep maybe your terminals are fine but sounds like your connectors have stretched as you say etc.

Just wondering what you mean by the join (run a hacksaw blade through it)? Do you mean the open end of the clamp?
Yes, remove the bolt then saw a sliver off 1 side, 1 blade thickness will be plenty. Also make sure they are pushed all the way down on the posts as they are tapered

LOL,

I lived in Ballarat for around 6 months, then took a defender to Katherine up the east cost a few years ago, great times.
PS not a fan of VB though.......
Ballarat in VIC is pretty cold in winter - Katherine in NT (a long way away) can get cold at night, but bloody hot, dry desert heat during the day in Summer - a good place to drink lots of VB (I was a brewer for 10 years and "made" VB - great "session beer" to quench a desert thirst! Love pints of traditional English ale though!).

Was in Ballarat from July to new year, then coastal road all the way up to Katherine, spent some time on Fraser, too much time in Nimbim, avoided surfers P like the plague, up to cape tribe then across to Katherine, then flew back to Ballerat in the following July. Great times.
Developed some odd addictions, cherry ripes, carlton cold, lemon ruskis and some local white beer called 'hopback summer lightning' made some micro ice brewery thing in Cairns, I insisted on a 150 mile round trip to go back and get more!
I live in Kent the home of traditional english hop farms etc, I do like real ale but it has to be very cold for me, not a fan of the room temp beer.
But then you guys take cold brewskis to another level.....FFS ice crystals in my beer and whats with those tiny beer glasses lol?
:D

VB is a VERY easy drinker, too easy but I just cant deal with the 'hammer head' the next day i get with it! Crown was ok, not sure if thats still out there.

Sounds great, not many people get a chance to do a BIG road trip like that - I hope you really savour the memories! Relationships (even lack thereof), kids, education, work, lack of money, family obligations, poor health (personal and family) and of course LAZINESS all tend to get in the way of serious road trips! Ah, the blessed life of the idle rich!:p Sadly as well, road trips not quite adventurous these days - there's usually a Maccas somewhere beyond every mirage and a discarded Coke bottle/can in what you thought was untouched wilderness!

Loved Kent by the way - England's garden as they say!

Anyway, Disco starts 100% - overhauled starter solenoid and re-shaped those battery terminal clamps (suddenly became an issue with the new battery). Just had to be careful with the clamps lest I break them - used ordinary pliers and needle-nose pliers to carefully re-shape and also used a sliver of a shim (those caps to go over the battery terminals I bought where just too far the other way so just cut off a small sliver with tin snips and beat it out with a hammer. Very secure now (not floppy) and not over-tightened.

Just goes to prove most things can be fixed with a 'Russian Screwdriver' AKA hammer :p
