having read tales of woe over batteries it finally happened. who would think a battery would just dropp off in a day just like that (as tommy cooper would say) couldnt beleive it l served my time as a mechanic did a long spell in auto electrics but never seen one just b right one day and fooked the next. fitted a new one and u realise the thing had been going it runs great g/box changes better so worth the money.

There will always be a critical point, once it's at that critical point the draw on turning over an engine will cause rapid degredation. Once at that point its unlikley to be be recovered.

Never mind one day, mine went in one hour. Out in the morning shopping & back home 60Km run, 1 hour later, phone rings, visitor can't find us, jump in car, battery dead as a dodo.
Over 4 years on, the Alphaline is still going strong.

years ago u would take it off kick it round the garage it would b ok for a few months not now l jumped it at work as per manual ran it 50 mile home bloody thing still wouldnt start following morning anyway new one on three year guarantee so no probs l hope

Lead Calcium batteries are very unforgiving of low charge voltage and they are not designed to drop below 50% charge.

They also seem to be set to last as long as the warranty period from date of purchase, plus a month

That is not my experience. If the charge voltage is correct and the battery is not allowed to discharge they last for a very long time, first one on my MR2 lasted 20 years, they second one is coming up to 10 years, the one on my UK neighbours Honda Civic lasted over 15 years.
