Can anyone help please? We have a 2006 Freelander and we’re currently broken down in County Donegal with 2 dogs in the back! We were driving along and the battery light came on and the temperature gauge shot up and the power steering went. My husband could still steer the car but it was really struggling up the hill so we’ve pulled over and we’re waiting for the AA to come out. Does anyone have a clue what it might be? Thanks so much, Kathy

Yes belt either broken or derailed. BUT need to find out why. TD4 engine suffers from water pump collapse or crankshaft pulley failure. Get both these checked or a new belt won't help for long.

Good luck..

Thanks SO MUCH for replying.. we’re just waiting for the AA now 👍👍❤️

So, if the crank pulley or water pump pulley are loose or at an odd angle fitting a new belt is pointless. Let's hope it is just the belt and you are soon back on the road. Don't let AA leave until the engine has been running for 10 minutes or more. If there is another problem belt will pop off again.

Wow!! You are a star!! Thanks so much for replying.. we’re still waiting for the AA but I can’t wait for them to turn up so I sound really knowledgeable… when really if someone asks what kind of car I have I usually reply… a blue one 😂😂🥱🥱🥱

This a great forum. See you joined up today! When you have solved the crisis come back and introduce you and your car and your dogs !!
I certainly will… thanks everyone for replying so quickly to my thread… I googled the problem when we broke down and this forum came up… so when we eventually get home I’ll formally introduce ourselves and our dogs and our great Freelander 🥰👍

So the belt should look like this, drivers side of engine.

AA taking over 1.5 hours?!?! Not good. Are the dogs O.k ?
Have you had a look ?
we parked outside a ladies house on a country road and she’s been good enough to drive my husband back to the cottage to get our other car and he’s had to drive back and get the dogs and I’m sitting here like a lemon waiting for the AA. The lady has been an amazing… unbelievably kind of her to do that for us….and you’ve been unbelievably kind helping us out … thank you so much
