I am currently looking for a battery isolator switch. What I really want is one of the lucas battery post switches like I have on one of my tractors however these no longer seem to be available and the prices of the ones I have seen are far to high. I am looking for an on off switch rather than the screw connector switches found on ebay. I have come across this one that is the sort of thing I am looking for (Link), however can any one confirm if the rating is high enough for a standard series 3 2.25 diesel?
  • Maximum Voltage - 32v
  • Continuous Rating - 150A
  • Intermittent Rating 225A
  • Cranking Rating 30 Sec - 450A
 
I see its out of stock. One way is to match the switch to the battery CCA for the 30 sec / cranking rating since you know this is the max it will see.
 
I was just thinking the other day that that there are quite a few unfused cables, and I'd like to have a pretty quick way to isolate the battery in case I smell hot insulation. That's a neat switch - a lot better than some of the isolators I've seen.

I have one of those on my Series, but it doesn't switch the starter current, that's straight through, its wired to switch everything else so 50A is fine. You don't want any avoidable conenctions between the battery and the solenoid.

How do amps work if it is on earth side? Is there still the same rating required as for the positive draw? I am not great with calculating electrical things.

I have the same a removable key isolater which kills all electrics but starter still direct from battery but have removed solenoid wire from ignition and wired it through a hidden start button also fuel pump is on a seperate switch alongside battery isolater...
