Hi there,
I have recently bought a 1995 P38 2.5TD Problem is a battery drain. I have replaced the Battery and having read up from the advice on here, also disconected the RF receiver. However, parked up on Saturday afternoon and this afternoon, battery too flat to turn over again. So 24 hours to make it too flat to start. Any further ideas?? I also have a message stating "Alarm fault" when I turn the ignition key on and windows etc not set when turning it off - are the two connected??

charge it up and lock it, walk up without key and in the dark-look for park on gear selector-dim light =bcem not sleeping.
also if you used demist function-the relays and or bcem can play up

OK, its a manual vehicle, so any other tell tale signs vehivle is active other than lights on gear selector?

Do yourself a favour and buy a new RF receiver - sometimes even disconnecting the original doesn't work if stray signals are keeping the BECM awake. They cost around £100 - small change in the big scheme of P38 ownership!!

i agree with what rangiegal says, but make sure it is the latest one and not one bought of ebay.rangiegal normally points this out because some people on there tell you it's a new receiver but sell you or try to sell you their old one instead.;)

The fault messages are caused by the flat batterry and will go away when it is full charged. RF recievers do seem to be a problem, but think of all the old problems associated with battery drain before the anvent of BECMs and RF recievers. A failed diode in alternator will cause battery drain. If you have disconnected the RF reciever and still get drain a failed diode is the obvious solution.

just to make sure, have a load test done on your new battery.i know it's new but it would not be the first time a new battery was found to be faulty.

A new battery is not sold fully charged methinks, so it would need a few hours on a charger or a long run to fully charge it. Could just be your new battery was only partially charged when you got it and you have not put enough into it.
