Sorry, I know this must have been covered but, I have tried to find a thread/post and failed miserably. I bought the car last week (it is a 'problem' motor, 1994 3.9 vogue) and it's been stood for a week after putting a fully charged battery on it. I have been 'playing' every day (never started) but today, having managed to get the central locking working yesterday, I came to it, went to unlock and the alarm went off??? It continued to bleep for the next hour or so, then gave up, I checked the battery and it had totally drained. Not quite sure how or why (only using the key, no remote) but something appears to have gone wrong (thought of a million things I could have said but decided keep it clean). Thoughts/ideas most welcome, thanks, Peanuts

If you are going to play games like that (and why not?) then give it a fighting chance by having a battery charger in "supply-mode" on it permanently perhaps?

An Aldi smart charger does the job or a decent solar panel
^^^^ +1
I bought one of those last month and although only 3.8A max it does a very decent job. Well worth the money.
I use the Ctek MXS7 mostly and it has a "reconditioning" which I don't think the Aldi one has. But the Aldi one costs <10% of the Ctek :D

Reconditioning is a mirage on Lead Calcium batteries IMO, the Aldi one does much the same thing.

Locking the vehicle remotely or with a key will set the alarm, but to unlock U use a fob only, that’s how the system functions, the system senses voltage drop, therefore, when using a key the activation of the central locking activates and so sounds the alarm. Using the fob the security ECU isolates the voltage drop sensing circuit and unlocks the vehicle. Simples. :)

So u can now carry on with a tread on “how battery chargers compare” :D

Many thanks lads, see what you mean about giving the battery a fighting chance, I had charged it at home but can't vouch for its life expectancy, lesson learnt (the mere fact I'll forget in a few months is irrelevant LOL). Slight problem with a trickle charge, it's on the edge of a field, near a barn, no power. Now the key fob business, it didn't come with one and it took quite a while to free the locks to get them to work (still got one back door and the tailgate to go) so not so simples I'm afraid, any way round it? I've got one (a fob) I bought for my Disco that I never got to work, could that be programmed to the Classic possibly? If so, suggestions as to how would be much appreciated, thanks.

Get yourself a solar panel and charge controller.
